The Interface Between
Human Capital Management
and Information Technology

Strategy Management Systems

Why Speyer?

We help HR VP’s & Directors deal with issues such as:

  • How to establish and implement an effective Human Capital Management strategy supported by IT systems?
  • How to manage and ensure success in IT based HCM change projects?
  • How to choose systems providers and negotiation contracts and service levels?
  • Ways of thinking in HR and IT are often radically different; our job is to make systems design, procurement, configuration and roll-out work produce great results for the client. Remember, it is rare for systems implementations to “fail” because of bad technology; disappointment and difficulties usually arise because of poor process design, poor change management and unrealistic estimations of the organisation’s capacity for change.

Services

Independent Project Management & Advice

The successful procurement and implementation of larger scale, information systems driven, organisational change projects, is not easy. Few HR departments have sufficient experience and expertise in this area and even fewer, sufficient time and resources to do this well.

Speyer PS can provide an effective interface between systems suppliers and the HR organisation. We do this through having both a deep understanding of Human Resource management and business imperatives combined with an equally thorough knowledge of information systems management, IT supplier management and project management in general.

Critically, this advice must be independent of the IT systems or implementation supplier.

Systems Review, Development, Procurement and Integration

Many organisations will have an overabundance of different HR related systems aimed at providing the basic plumbing for transactional HR functions and to support the transformational HCM processes that will provide competitive advantage such as Performance Management and Career Planning.

Organisations are faced with evermore complex decisions on how to best deploy, integrate and update these systems and make use of the diverse data available to them.

These decisions are best taken with a clear set of HCM metrics and goals and a realistic understanding of the current HR transformation capability of the organisation coupled with a deep understanding of the possibilities offered by the technology and the capability to skilfully manage system and service providers.

Typical services would include:

  • Review of current HRM systems against strategic goals
  • Development of systems roadmap against these goals
  • Project Management of systems procurement, integration and implementation
  • Project Management of Change Management process for corporate staff
  • Planning systems upgrades and development
  • Supplier management and terms of business negotiation
  • HRMIS (SAP/Oracle-PeopleSoft) & HCM systems integration

Talent Management Strategy and Direction Setting

Although many organisations embark on Talent Management activities, many struggle to ensure that they have the processes in place to ensure business success and know which key TM metrics they need to achieve to support the overall organisational business plans.

Symptoms of this include ambitions for the business which may be at risk due to HCM issues, yet the business has no clear roadmap as to how these can be overcome. Senior Managers in the business who are unable to articulate the immediate and medium term HCM plan and understand how its achievement is vital for their business success and thus to take their share of the responsibility to deliver against it.

Having a clear set of Talent Metrics linked to strategic business goals enables clarity in prioritisation, earns the commitment of general management and provides a dashboard of indicators to ensure that the Human Capital Management processes are moving in the right direction.

Typical Service would include:

  • Facilitation of workshops/brainstorming to integrate business and HCM strategy
  • Development of Talent Management metrics and goals
  • Assessment of organisational HCM capability
  • Road-mapping steps in development of HCM capability
